This weeks tool is a great way to see if and who is tweeting about your, or a competitor’s, website who may not have mentioned your twitter account. It is called backtweets.com.
This search engine is rather simple but effective. From the homepage you can easily enter the website name you want to look for.
Once you hit enter something cool happens. It shows all tweets mentioning that url… INCLUDING SHORTENED URLs!
Search.Twitter.com and other search engines do not give you results unless the string is actually in the tweet. This service goes one step further. Which makes it a great addition to your social media listening plan.
But there is more, did you see the last really cool part of backtweets.com in the above image?
Yep, you can subscribe to an RSS feed of links to websites you are interested in and add them to Google Reader, iGoogle, Netvibes or any other RSS program you want!
These are just the features of the free version. They have a ‘pro’ version in the works that could provide even more helpful tools.
If you are looking to increase the size of your ears so to speak you really cannot afford to not check this site out!
Giving credit where credit is due:
I found this website by following Laura Roeder’s blog. She is definitely one of the legitimate social media experts out there. This is a link to her video on BackTweets.
Have you tried BackTweets? What do you think? What other tools do you use to listen to what is happening on the social web?
