Thank you for your interest in my data analysis and storytelling work. I am using this place to take on one off challenges to push myself and get outside of my daily work. As this project goes forward I am looking forward to using it as a chance to try new tools. In the mean time I have enjoyed the challenge of building these visuals in common tools like Excel and Google Sheets. I see visualization and analysis tools much like kitchen knives or artist tools. They can make you faster or enable a technique to elevate the piece, but the tools should never be a crutch or excuse for not achieving a compelling result.

Starting with an unclear visualization from the WTF.viz Tumblr account and seeing what we find when we look at my approximation of the underlying data (the featured image to the left). This challenge really illustrates how the story the data is telling can be lost or clarified based on the visualization used.

With all the articles I have seen in the last few years using “average faces” I wanted to try to make one of my own. I found a tutorial on Medium and made the average face for the Bachelorette contestants in 2019.
